Epiphany Bottom Line Spirituality: Worldly and Godly Thinking

Click here to go to the Bottom Line Meditations for Epiphany

Godly Abiding Spiritually in Jesus Changes the Meaning of What we See Worldly When Not Abiding in Jesus.

Worldly thinking reads the scripture as “it is what it is.” Godly understanding reads the scripture as “what it is, is what it is.”

Matthew 2:1-12 Then he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, "Go and search diligently for the child so that I may also go and pay him homage."

What is so wise about three wise guys?

It is not what it is. This is the start of the Epiphany Season. The heroes are the wise men. The scripture does not say they were kings, or that there were three, or that they were there at the manger scene. They may have come two years after the birth. Jesus was not born in the year zero. The Herod who murdered the children up to two years of age died around five B.C. Jesus could have been born five or seven years before the end of B.C. That makes this year at least 2018. All the more reason we need to be cautious of those who tell us “it is what it is” and this is when the end of the world will happen. They generally are five to eight years too late.

What Epiphany is, is what it is. It is a sudden appearance or manifestation of a divine being. It is not something that happened two thousand or so years ago. It is what is happening now. The Gospel story of the wise men is not for historical remembrance but for spiritual insight for each of us today, for the season and for life.

As spiritual beings we all have a physical and a spiritual DNA. DNA is information. Spiritual DNA is innately within us all. What it is, is the Peace, Love, Joy and Wisdom needed to grow, develop and live healthy spiritual lives. DNA is like a cook book. It contains an unlimited number of recipes. Each recipe contains two kinds of information, godly sense and worldly “antisense”.

We choose which recipe to use. Choosing to use the worldly antisense recipe, our thoughts create our feelings about how we react to a situation. Choosing to use the godly sense recipe, the feeling of our inner Presence creates a wise thought in the situation.

What Epiphany is, is a choice. We can choose the worldly way or the Godly of life. We can be human beings on a spiritual journey. Our spirituality will depend on our journey. Or we can choose the way of the wise men. We can be spiritual being on a human journey.

Take a moment to feel the epiphany of the spiritual Presence within as you. What difference does it make when you are seeking Wisdom and guidance in this coming year?

What can our journey can be? It can be like that of the wise men. Our journey, like theirs, will depend on our spirituality. Where are you going now?
