Twelfth Sunday After Pentecost Bottom Line Meditations

Unlocking the Gospel Secrets of Spirituality

Discover what difference reading these scriptures while Thinking Legalism or Feeling Grace can make.

The Grace Language of Jesus

SPIRITUALITY CAN CHANGE OUR LIFE

Jesus spoke a foreign language. He took literal words the legalist understood and gave them a new spiritual meaning.

Legalism thinks Grace is like playing tennis without a net!

Not sure how to apply these? Click here to read the introductory text for the new Bottom Line Meditations

OLD TESTAMENT: 1 Kings 3:5-12

Literal Religion: Discerning Wisdom is rational.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“I now do according to your word. Indeed I give you a wise and discerning mind; no one like you has been before you and no one like you shall arise after you.”

Spiritual Grace: Discerning Wisdom is spiritual.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“I now do according to your word. Indeed I give you a wise and discerning mind; no one like you has been before you and no one like you shall arise after you.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Legalism defines life in what they do not believe. Grace defines life in what they do believe!

PSALM: 119:129-136

Literal Religion: Keeping God’s word is rational and physical.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”

Spiritual Grace: Keeping God’s word is conscious and spiritual.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Legalists live their Christian life before men. People living in Grace live their lives in God!

EPISTLE: Romans 8:26-39

Literal Religion: When all things do not work for us physically it is because spiritually we don’t love God.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”

Spiritual Grace: When things do not work out for us physically they can work out for us spiritually.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Legalism: In loving you possess your soul. Grace: In your soul you possess Love!

GOSPEL: Matthew 13:31-33, 44-52

Literal Religion: The Kingdom is physically like seed, yeast, gold, pearl or nets tossed into the sea.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field.”

Spiritual Grace: Seed, yeast, gold, pearl or nets tossed into the sea are spiritually like the kingdom of Heaven.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“He put before them another parable: "The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field.”

Did you feel the Grace?

In legalism, being in God’s Presence can be the 'spare tire' we put on in time of trouble. In Grace, being in God’s Presence is the 'steering wheel' that directs us on the right path of life's journey!
