Fourth Sunday After Pentecost Bottom Line Meditations

Unlocking the Gospel Secrets of Spirituality

Discover what difference reading these scriptures while Thinking Legalism or Feeling Grace can make.

The Grace Language of Jesus

SPIRITUALITY CAN CHANGE OUR LIFE

Jesus spoke a foreign language. He took literal words the legalist understood and gave them a new spiritual meaning.

Worldly legalism can only think literally. Godly Grace knows the spiritual difference.

Legalism chooses the laws they like. Grace knows only one law, “Love one another as I have loved you.”

Grace is so shy, that if you begin talking about it literally, it disappears spiritually.

Not sure how to apply these? Click here to read the introductory text for the new Bottom Line Meditations

OLD TESTAMENT: Genesis 24:34-38, 42-49, 58-67

Literal Religion: Loves others so that others will love them.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“He took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her.”

Spiritual Grace: Is loved spiritually so that they may love others.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“He took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Tell the legalist what you need and they will tell you how to get along without it!

PSALM: 45:10-17

Literal Religion: Forget is to rationally blot out any past love for others.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“Forget your people and your father's house, and the king will desire your beauty.”

Spiritual Grace: Forget is not to depend upon the love of others when we have the Love of Jesus.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“Forget your people and your father's house, and the king will desire your beauty.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Legalists believe they don't have an attitude problem, but you have a perception problem!

EPISTLE: Romans 7:15-25a

Literal Religion: Do not know they are out of God’s Presence.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do.”

Spiritual Grace: Knows when they are out of His Presence.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I do.”

Did you feel the Grace?

The goal of legalism: I want it all and I want it delivered!

GOSPEL: Matthew 11:16-19, 25-30

Literal Religion: The spiritual Presence is hidden from the rational mind.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants.”

Spiritual Grace: The Spiritual Presence is consciously sensed.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants.”

Did you feel the Grace?

The meek shall inherit the earth... after the legalists are done with it!
