The Season of Lent is an opportunity to strengthen our spiritual abilities to look within ourselves. These exercises can help us discover the different meaning looking at the same scripture from the spiritual side can make.

Worldly thinking only knows the physical. Godly thinking knows both can choose which is best for them. Which would you choose in each case?

Worldly, manna was physical and only for a certain time.

Godly, manna is spiritual and always present.

OLD TESTAMENT: Joshua 5:9-12

Worldly: The manna ceased on the day they ate the produce of the land, and the Israelites no longer had manna.
Godly: The manna ceased on the day they ate the produce of the land, and the Israelites no longer had physical manna, but the Presence of the spiritual manna was always with them.

Worldly, prayer of the faithful is to avoid distress.

Godly, prayer of the faithful is to get through the distress.

PSALM: 32

Worldy: Let all who are faithful offer prayer to you; at a time of distress, the rush of mighty waters shall not reach them.
Godly: Let all who are faithful offer spiritual prayer to you; at a time of distress, the rush of mighty waters shall not reach them.

Worldly, new physical creation replaces the old physical creation.

Godly, new spiritual creation replaces the old worldly creation.

EPISTLE: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Worldy: If anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away. Everything has become new!
Godly: If anyone is spiritually in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away. Everything has become new!

Worldly, coming to oneself is to realize how much physically is missing.

Godly, coming to oneself is to realize how much spiritually is missing.

GOSPEL: Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32

Worldly: But when he came to himself
Godly: But when he spiritually came to himself
