Thirteenth Sunday After Pentecost Bottom Line Meditations

Unlocking the Gospel Secrets of Spirituality

Discover what difference reading these scriptures while Thinking Legalism or Feeling Grace can make.

The Grace Language of Jesus

SPIRITUALITY CAN CHANGE OUR LIFE

Jesus spoke a foreign language. He took literal words the legalist understood and gave them a new spiritual meaning.

Not sure how to apply these? Click here to read the introductory text for the new Bottom Line Meditations

OLD TESTAMENT: Exodus 12:1-14

Literal Religion: Sees putting the blood of the lamb on the door posts and the lentil as historical.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.”

Spiritual Grace: Sees putting the blood of the lamb on the door posts and the lentil spiritually as a sign of the blood of Christ on the cross.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“They shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it.”

Did you feel the Grace?

I'm so miserable with legalism, when I am in grace and out of legalism it's almost like its still there!

PSALM: 149

Literal Religion: The faithful are those who rationally believe their faith.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the faithful.”

Spiritual Grace: The faithful are those who spiritually experience their faith.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“Praise the LORD! Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of the faithful.”

Did you feel the Grace?

Think of how stupid legalists sound and realize half of them sound stupider than that!

EPISTLE: Romans 13:8-14

Literal Religion: Fulfills the law by loving others to get into the Presence of the Love of Jesus.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

Spiritual Grace: Fulfills the law by loving others in the Presence of the Love of Jesus.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.”

Did you feel the Grace?

For every idiotic legalistic proof system devised, a new, improved idiotic legalistic system will arise to replace it!

GOSPEL: Matthew 18:15-20

Literal Religion: Treats those who do not listen to them harshly as gentiles and tax collectors.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“If the offender refuses to listen even to the church, treat them as a gentile and a tax collector.”

Spiritual Grace: Treats those who do not listen to them lovingly as Jesus treated gentiles and tax collectors.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“If the offender refuses to listen even to the church, treat them lovingly as a gentile and a tax collector.”

Did you feel the Grace?

I said "no" to legalism, but it just wouldn't listen to me!
