The Grace Language of Jesus

SPIRITUALITY CAN CHANGE OUR LIFE

Jesus spoke a foreign language. He took literal words the legalist understood and gave them a new spiritual meaning.

Not sure how to apply these? Click here to read the introductory text for the new Bottom Line Meditations

OLD TESTAMENT: Genesis 45:1-15

Literal Religion: Forgiveness is to others.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“And he kissed all his brothers and wept upon them.”

Spiritual Grace: Forgiveness is for yourself.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“And he kissed all his brothers and spiritually wept upon them.”

Did you feel the Grace?

If being good in legalism isn't everything why do they keep score?

PSALM: 133

Literal Religion: Union is legalistic in that it means all must agree on the law.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in union!”

Spiritual Grace: Union is graceful in that there can be differences but there is a common bond of the Spirit and respect for one another.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in union!”

Did you feel the Grace?

Anyone who has never made a mistake legalistically has never tried grace!

EPISTLE: Romans 11:1-2a, 29-32

Literal Religion: You can lose the grace of God.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

Spiritual Grace: The grace of God is unconditional and inclusive and irrevocable.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.”

Did you feel the Grace?

In legalism if everything seems to be coming your way, you're probably in the wrong lane!

GOSPEL: Matthew 15:(10-20), 21-28

Literal Religion: Understanding is rational.

Read this scripture literally for its religious meaning.

“Are you also still without understanding?”

Spiritual Grace: Understanding comes from abiding in Him.

Now quietly move into God's Presence and read this scripture again.

“Are you also still without understanding?”

Did you feel the Grace?

Sometimes the best helping hand you can get from God is a good, firm push!
