Advent III: The Christmas Peace

Jesus is asking the people what did they go out into the wilderness to see in John the Baptist? It was not some prince in a palace. If they did they would be terribly disappointed. They went out to see a prophet. But the question is how do you see a prophet? What do you look for? A prophet of God is not something you see. It is something you feel. You feel they are in the Presence of God and are sharing not their thoughts, but God’s thoughts. This is what a true prophet is. You listen to what is being said because the speaker is in the Presence.  Read more

Year C Twenty-First Sunday After Pentecost Meditation

Did you catch the point of this story? Granted there are many minor points. There is the healing of the lepers, the one who came back to give thanks. There is Jesus telling him that his Faith has made him whole. What is the big point? Did you miss it?  Read more

Year C Eleventh Sunday After Pentecost Meditation

Today’s lesson is an excellent illustration of Jesus' way of grace. The teaching is to know the difference being in or out of His Presence can make. Here are two brothers who are out of the Presence. They have become angry, greedy and bitter. Why did Jesus not give fair judgment to the two brothers? The answer was to either change the inheritance or not change it. Regardless of which was chosen, one would be happy and the other would remain a bitter, angry victim the rest of their life. So why did he answer the way he did?  Read more

Year C Sixth Sunday After Pentecost Meditation

God declared War on Legalism when He sent His Word into the World. The Word became flesh and dwelt among us … full of grace and truth. Legalism fought back against the grace believing the Bible, not Jesus, is the word of God. Grace is based on the Two Great Love Commandments. All the Law and the Prophets have now been changed into “do the loving thing.” The New Command is to be in His Presence in order to Love one another. “Apart from me you can do nothing.”  Read more

Year C Pentecost

Pentecost. The need to witness today is the same as it was in the time of the first disciples. How we witness must be updated. We have computers, cell phones, Facebook, Twitter. How do we utilize them to witness? We need to make a paradigm shift. It is called DISCIPLE‑SHIFT. The DISCIPLE‑SHIFT offers an inventive way to grow spiritually and to witness to others about the grace of God within us all.  Read more

Third Sunday of Easter

Third Sunday of Easter. Questions at Easter time: After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberius. What is Peter doing with some of the Apostles way up in Tiberias? They were just in the upper room at Jerusalem. Now they are far away at the top of the Sea of Galilee.  Read more

Easter Day

Easter Day. "Do not hold on to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father.” The resurrection is not an event from the past. It is an experience of His Presence in us now that changes our life. When we are thinking worldly, we try to be loving, faithful and hopeful to feel God’s Love, Faith and Hope in us. When we are feeling the godly Love, Faith and Hope He has for us and in us, we become loving, faithful and hopeful.  Read more

Fourth Sunday After Epiphany

“The greatest of these is Love.” This does not mean Love is the best. Legalism is interested in which is better, Faith, Hope or Love? If we think Love is the best, then we will spend more time learning about Love. Faith and Hope can almost be ignored because Love is the best. However that is not what Paul said. He did say it was the greatest, but that does not mean it is the best. It means that these three are part of the whole.  Read more

Epiphany

What Epiphany is, is what it is. It is a sudden appearance or manifestation of a divine being. It is not something that happened two thousand or so years ago. It is what is happening now. The Gospel story of the wise men is not for historical remembrance but for spiritual insight for each of us today, for the season and for life.  Read more
